While rumors suggesting Idris Elba may be the next James Bond have been circulating for quite a while now, it’s not looking too likely, as the actor has come forward to dash hopes that he’ll star as the next 007.
In an interview on Good Morning America, the 43-year-old actor said he thinks he’s “too old for that,” calling the chatter about him filling the void left by Daniel Craig the “wildest rumor in the world.”
According to Elba, “it would be the will of a nation” if he were to star as Bond, as he hasn’t been in any talks with the studio. While the actor acknowledged that there’s interest among fans, he doesn’t think he’d be the right fit at his age, jokingly saying, “running around in cars with ladies and martinis, who wants to do that? Sounds terrible.”
In addition to his villainous role in this week’s new film Star Trek Beyond, Elba will star as the Gunslinger in The Dark Tower, which opens in theaters next February.
