The FBI has joined the hunt for a 10-year-old Arizona boy who is thought to have climbed out of his bedroom window and ran away last weekend.

Jesse Wilson was last seen on Sunday night when he left his home in Buckeye, a suburb of Phoenix.

His heartbroken mother Crystal Wilson told the local KPHO TV station: ‘This is your mommy. No one is mad at you.

‘I just miss your loving, caring sweet voice. That’s all I have to stay.’

Volunteers have been searching the Buckeye area, where temperatures have reached 100 degrees this week, in the midst of a scorching Arizona summer, and aircraft have also been used.

Jesse has run away from home before but only for a few hours. He was not believed to have taken any money, food or water with him.

Police told KPHO they had not ruled out foul play.

Daniel Hughes, principal of Jesse’s school, Bradley Academy, said: ‘Jesse is a beloved young man and many of our teachers and faculty have known him for several years now and we’ve grown quite close to him, his sister and his family.’

Students have used yellow paper cups to spell out #leadjessehome on the chain link fence outside the school and hundreds of people have used the same hashtag on Twitter while posting photographs and appeals.
