Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos Is Now the World’s 3rd Richest Person

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is having a good month. He’ll see himself on the silver screen as an alien extra in the new Star Trek movie, he announced his space company Blue Origin had a successful rocket landing and oh, he became the world’s third richest person.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires list, Bezos, 52, was worth a cool $65.1 billion as of Thursday. That puts him at number three on the list, slightly above from investor Warren Buffett, who’s now worth a mere $65 billion.

With Amazon’s stock soaring (AMZN) Bezos has been inching up the list. He hit number four in May of this year.

Ahead of him are Spanish retail magnate Amancio Ortega, worth $73.4 billion and former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, worth $89.1 billion.

Amazon is expected to report strong revenue and earnings on Thursday when it releases its second quarter financial report. It stock surged in April after it reported a surprisingly strong profit in the first quarter.

With Amazon’s stock price already so high, such increases could push Bezos personal fortune still further into the stratosphere.

Bezos held 81,909,072 shares of the online retailer’s stock in 2016. So a rise of just 50 cents in the stock price means he makes more than $40 million.

Amazon’s guidance for the second quarter is revenue of between $28,000 and $30,500 million with normalized earnings per share of $1.12. Analysts are expecting the company to beat the Street’s consensus both in terms of revenue and profitability.

In May, Bezos climbed to number fourth on the Bloomberg Billionaire list.
