LISTEN: The Epic Love of Jesus Christ, Part 7 (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 202 with Daniel Whyte III)

Daniel Whyte III

TEXT: John 13:3-11

3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;

4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.

5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?

7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.

8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

———-

Today, I am continuing the daily Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign sermon series, which is aimed at sharing the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ with unbelievers and reminding Christians, in this important election year, to keep the main thing the main thing — and that is reaching unbelievers with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and praying for their salvation, for the problem in America is not only disobedient presidents, politicians, and people, but disobedient pastors, preachers, and parishioners who have refused to obey the Lord’s Great Commission which is to, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” and who have refused to obey God’s repeated commands to “pray without ceasing” for unbelievers, believers, and political leaders. Yes, you should pray for the right candidate to win; yes, you should vote for the candidate that the Lord gives you peace about voting for. But, don’t get caught up in it like the world does. Nothing much is going to change until people get saved and get their hearts right with the Lord.

This campaign is inspired by the following three verses: 1 Corinthians 2:2 which says, “For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” Acts 5:42 which says, “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” And 2 Timothy 2:4 which says, “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”

This series is not for Christians necessarily. However, I do hope you are one of those saints who still loves to hear the “Old, old story of Jesus and His love” — As another hymn says, “For those who know it best Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest.” This series is primarily for unbelievers, so they can hear and understand the Gospel and be saved from sin and the punishment of sin which is hell. This is message number 202.

Max Lucado said, “Our Saviour kneels down and gazes upon the darkest acts of our lives. But rather than recoil in horror, he reaches out in kindness and says, ‘I can clean that if you want.’ And from the basin of his grace, he scoops a palm full of mercy and washes our sin away.”

Today, we continue looking at the exchange between Jesus and Peter as Jesus is washing the feet of His disciples. Peter, expressing a sentiment that I am sure belonged to all of the disciples, declares that Jesus will never wash his feet. But, when Jesus tells him that he cannot be a part of Him unless he is washed, Peter changes his tune. Now, he wants Jesus to wash him all over — to take the basin of water that He is using, and instead of just washing his feet, to dump it on his head and wash him from head to toe.

But Jesus explains that that kind of washing, spiritually speaking, had already been done. Because Peter, flawed as he was, had placed his faith in Jesus Christ, he did not need to be washed all over. He was already a member of God’s family. However, even as a saint, he sometimes fell into sin. He sometimes messed up. He was about to have a huge mess-up when he would deny Christ three times as Jesus was on trial. Jesus is pre-emptively letting him know that it is going to be okay. Even though he would dirty his feet, Jesus will be there to wash him clean again and restore their fellowship.

The same goes for believers today. Although we are saved, we can mess up our fellowship with God if we have unconfessed sin in our lives. You can think of our relationship with God as a radio signal that travels across the airwaves from Heaven to our hearts. Sin in our lives becomes interference in the radio signal. It does not cancel out our relationship, but it does interrupt our fellowship. The only way to restore fellowship is through confession and repentance. First John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

It is also the believer’s responsibility to invest in his relationship with God by prayer, Bible study, and church attendance. All of these things have a cleansing effect on the Christian’s life and help keep sin at bay. Dr. Warren Wiersbe said, “The Lord cleanses us through the blood of Christ, that is, His work on the cross, and through the application of His Word to our lives. The ‘water of the Word’ can keep our hearts and minds clean so that we will avoid the pollutions of this world. But if we do sin, we have a loving Advocate in glory who will hear our prayers of confession and forgive us.”

Jesus’ exchange with Peter also includes a cautionary tale, especially for those who think the “good works” above are what constitutes salvation. Jesus tells Peter, “He that is washed needeth not [wash again] except to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.” John adds, “For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.”

There was one among the disciples who had not had the full body wash that we spoke of earlier — Judas Iscariot. He had not believed on Jesus Christ as the Son of God and his own personal Savior. That is why Jesus said, “Ye are not all clean.” If Judas was not clean like the other disciples, then why did Jesus wash his feet? We do not know, but what we do know is that Jesus’ washing of Judas’ feet did him no good because he had not been washed all over. He was still an unbeliever and had not been cleansed from his sins. Even now, as he sat at the table with the other disciples, Satan was putting plans in his heart that he would soon carry out.

Unfortunately, there are many people like Judas in the church today. They take part in the foot-washing — prayer, Bible reading, church attendance, ministry to others; but they have never received the full body washing because they have not believed in Jesus Christ as their Savior. If you do not receive the full body washing, all the foot-washing in the world will not help you.

The foremost question is: Have you been washed clean in the blood of the Lamb?

Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;
There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,
O be washed in the blood of the Lamb!

Are you walking daily by the Savior’s side?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Are you ready to be washed in the blood of the Lamb today?

First, please understand that you are a sinner and that you have broken God’s laws. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Please understand that because of your sins, you deserve punishment in hell. Romans 6:23 says “the wages of sin is death…” This is both physical death and spiritual death in hell.

But here is the good news. John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The phrase “For God so loved the world” means that if you are in this world, God loves you no matter what you have done.

The next phrase, “that He gave His only begotten Son” refers to Jesus Christ. He is God’s son who suffered, bled, and died on the cross for your sins and for mine, and He was buried and rose again.

Our next phrase is “that whosoever believeth in Him”. The word “whosoever” means anybody at anytime. The phrase “believeth in Him” means to trust in Him, to depend upon Him, to rely on Him, or to have faith in Him for your salvation.

Our next phrase, “should not perish”, refers to eternal punishment in a place called hell.

And, lastly, the phrase “but have everlasting life” means to live eternally in Heaven with God.

The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Dear friend, if you are willing to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, please pray with me this simple prayer: Heavenly Father, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! For more information to help you grow in your newfound faith in Christ, go to Gospel Light Society.com and read “What To Do After You Enter Through the Door”. LISTEN: Alive in Christ, Part 5 (Revive the Family, Revive the Church, Awaken the Nation, O Lord #167 with Daniel Whyte III)

A series of homilies on Ephesians

A homily is “a short talk on a religious or moral topic; a usually short sermon; a lecture or discourse on or of a biblical theme.”

Daniel Whyte III
Daniel Whyte III

I am sharing a verse-by-verse series of short messages on Ephesians (as well as other passages of Scripture) specifically targeted at reviving families and encouraging and exhorting husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, and children to do what God has commanded them to do, for if the church is to be revived and the country is to be awakened, the family must be revived first.

TEXT: Ephesians 2:4-7:

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

—-

Stephen Olford said, “Revival is ultimately Christ Himself, seen, felt, heard, living, active, moving in and through His body on earth.”

Leonard Ravenhill said, “The true man of God is heartsick, grieved at the worldliness of the Church, grieved at the toleration of sin in the Church, grieved at the prayerlessness in the Church. He is disturbed that the corporate prayer of the Church no longer pulls down the strongholds of the devil.”

In their book, The Ten Greatest Revivals Ever, Elmer Towns and Douglas Porter share with us: “John and Charles Wesley, ministers in the Church of England, were present at the Fetter Lane outpouring of 1739. Within months, Whitefield and the Wesleys were preaching in the fields and stirring the hearts of thousands of coal miners thought by many to be beyond the reach of the gospel. John Wesley possessed the organizational skills necessary to harness the energy of revival into an evangelistic movement, which became the Methodist Church. From the Moravians, the Methodists learned to worship God with a new song. The hymns written during the Great Awakening by Charles Wesley and other Methodists are still widely used in the worship of God by evangelical Christians today.”

—-

God’s love for us is what caused Him to show us mercy and grace when we did not deserve it. Not only did He save us from our sins and make us alive when we were dead, but, as we see in verse 6, He “hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”

After Jesus rose from the dead, He ascended into Heaven to return to God the Father. Our home in Heaven and our eternal union with God are not just concepts for the future. Because we are in Christ and Christ is in Heaven, we are in Heaven with Him even now. We have communion with God even now.

The next wonderful thing we see in this passage is that God is not finished showing us His grace, love, and mercy. Paul says He has saved us and raised us up ‘that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.’ In the ages to come — not only in the future, but in eternity — God will still be showing us the riches of His grace. For all eternity in Paradise, we will be the beneficiaries of God’s mercy and grace. That is what we are being prepared for.

Charles Spurgeon said, “When all the saints shall be gathered home they shall still talk and speak of the wonders of Jehovah’s love in Christ Jesus, and in the golden streets they shall stand up and tell what the Lord has done for them. So is it with the grace of God: he has as much grace as you want, and he has a great deal more than that. The Lord has as much grace as a whole universe will require, but he has vastly more. He overflows: all the demands that can ever be made on the grace of God will never impoverish him, or even diminish his store of mercy.”

God’s grace is infinite and eternal. If you offer a free gift to someone and they refuse to receive it, you might leave them alone. But God, whose grace is limitless, has done everything possible to make us beneficiaries of that grace. He persistently offers and gives. There is nothing like God’s grace. We should keep this in mind, as we seek to show forth the spirit of God’s grace to a lost and dying world.

Over 100 years ago, Julia Johnston wrote this hymn which captures the essence of God’s grace as described in Ephesians:

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt,
yonder on Calvary’s mount out-poured,
there where the blood of the Lamb was spilt.

Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
freely bestowed on all who believe;
you that are longing to see his face,
will you this moment his grace receive?

Grace, grace, God’s grace,
grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
grace, grace, God’s grace,
grace that is greater than all our sin.

Let’s pray.

Now, if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, please keep in mind that the Bible says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” Just pray and ask Him to come into your heart and He will. I will be sharing more on the matter of salvation in the next segment of our service which starts in about 5 minutes.
