LISTEN: The Foundations of All Spiritual Blessings, Part 20 (Revive the Family, Revive the Church, Awaken the Nation, O Lord #161 with Daniel Whyte III)

A series of homilies on Ephesians

A homily is “a short talk on a religious or moral topic; a usually short sermon; a lecture or discourse on or of a biblical theme.”

I am sharing a verse-by-verse series of short messages on Ephesians (as well as other passages of Scripture) specifically targeted at reviving families and encouraging and exhorting husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, and children to do what God has commanded them to do, for if the church is to be revived and the country is to be awakened, the family must be revived first.

TEXT: Ephesians 1:18-23:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Duncan Campbell said, “A baptism of holiness, a demonstration of godly living is the crying need of our day.”

Leonard Ravenhill said, “I don’t believe that twenty people in all of America today have ever been in a revival — a real revival that stops the traffic; a revival where the lights never go out for months; a revival where weeks and weeks are spent in the sanctuary; a revival where the prayer meeting never ends!”

In their book, The Ten Greatest Revivals Ever, Elmer Towns and Douglas Porter share with us a quote from America’s first revivalist, Solomon Stoddard. He said, “There are some special seasons wherein God can in a remarkable manner revive religion among His people.”

Today, we are going to continue looking at how God wants us to have our eyes opened to the ‘exceeding greatness of His power.’ We saw yesterday that this mighty power was shown in how God raised Jesus up from death and the grace to sit in Heavenly places far above any other power in the universe. Through salvation, He has also raised us up to sit with Him in Heavenly places as well.

Now, we see how the mighty power of God is evident in a more practical sense. Our passage tells us that through his mighty power, God “hath put all things under [Jesus’] feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”

Notice that “all things” are even now — not some time in the future — even now under the feet of Jesus. If it was not clear enough that all things are under his feet, Paul adds that “He is the head of all things.” In other words, Jesus is in charge.

Who and what does Jesus’ authority have effect over? We see this in the next phrase which says, “to the church, which is his body.” The results of Jesus’ authority should be seen in the church. Jesus is the head of the church, and because everything is under his feet, the gates of hell will not and cannot prevail against the church. Because all things are under Jesus’ feet, the world, the flesh, and the devil do not have any power over God’s people except that which we allow on an individual basis.

What we must do is begin to acknowledge and appropriate the mighty power of God through Jesus Christ in our everyday lives. We do not have to be under the weather or under the circumstances because Jesus is above all things. We must remember and live as though we are in Christ. If Jesus is above all things, and we are in Him, then we are above all things with Him. Nothing will be able to get us down unless we let it.

Let’s pray.

Now, if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, please keep in mind that the Bible says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” Just pray and ask Him to come into your heart and He will. I will be sharing more on the matter of salvation in the next segment of our service which starts in about 5 minutes.
