LISTEN: The Church Was Birthed Through Prayer, Part 1 (Praying Through the Bible #201 with Daniel Whyte III)

Daniel Whyte III

TEXT: Acts 1:12-14

12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

We are in a series of messages titled “Praying Through the Bible: A Series on Every Passage and Verse Regarding Prayer in the Bible.” The purpose of this series is to encourage and motivate you to pray to the God of the Bible. We highlighted each of these over 500 verses and passages in the Prayer Motivator Devotional Bible. So far, we have completed 200 messages in this series.

This is message #201 titled, The Church Was Birthed Through Prayer

When we think about the beginning of the church, we typically think of Pentecost — of the power of God coming down like a loud, rushing wind in the form of the Holy Spirit and resting on the disciples like tongues of fire. While Pentecost is of great significance, our passage today shows us that the church really had a much quieter beginning that is typically overlooked.

Acts chapter 1 describes Jesus’ last physical meeting with His disciples. He met them on the Mount of Olives outside of Jerusalem and charged them with the Great Commission. In this passage, we see that there are three things that the followers of Jesus did that made the launch of the church successful.

First, they were obedient. Acts 1:4 says Jesus “commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father.” Verse 12 reads, “Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet.” The followers of Christ were obedient. They did not try to go and fulfill the Great Commission in their own strength. They went to Jerusalem and waited as Jesus told them to.

It is very well to be willing to preach the Gospel at any time, but preaching the Gospel when God has told you to wait is just as bad as not preaching the Gospel when God has told you to preach. God values your obedience more than any “ministry work” that you might do for Him. The beginning of the church was successful because Jesus’ followers were obedient to Him.

Now, if you are with us today, and you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, your first prayer needs to be what we call the Sinner’s Prayer. First, please understand that you are a sinner, just as I am, and that you have broken God’s laws. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now this is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on trusting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. You have done the most important thing in life. LISTEN: The Foundations of All Spiritual Blessings, Part 19 (Revive the Family, Revive the Church, Awaken the Nation, O Lord #160 with Daniel Whyte III)

A series of homilies on Ephesians

A homily is “a short talk on a religious or moral topic; a usually short sermon; a lecture or discourse on or of a biblical theme.”

Daniel Whyte III
Daniel Whyte III

I am sharing a verse-by-verse series of short messages on Ephesians (as well as other passages of Scripture) specifically targeted at reviving families and encouraging and exhorting husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, and children to do what God has commanded them to do, for if the church is to be revived and the country is to be awakened, the family must be revived first.

TEXT: Ephesians 1:18-23:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

—-

Del Fehsenfeld Jr. said, “Revival awakens in our hearts an increased awareness of the presence of God, a new love for God, a new hatred for sin, and a hunger for His Word.”

Leonard Ravenhill said, “The church should have more vision than anyone in the world; but she’s blind and crippled and helpless in her present state.”

In their book, The Ten Greatest Revivals Ever, Elmer Towns and Douglas Porter share with us: “In 1906, ten dedicated young Christians gathered a group of Christians every night to pray for revival. After a week of intense prayer, nothing had happened. “Perhaps God would not send revival after all,” they reasoned. It was easy to assume God would withhold revival blessings because of the widespread paganism in their region. Nevertheless, as the Mizo Christians were saying farewell to three friends, revival came. According to one observer, while the group sang the hymn ‘God Be With You Till We Meet Again,’ ‘the Spirit was poured upon them in a remarkable manner.’ Others living nearby joined them as they continued in a time of prayer and praise. God had not abandoned them. Revival had come!”

—-

Today, we are going to continue looking at how God wants us to have our eyes opened to the ‘exceeding greatness of His power.’ We saw yesterday that this mighty power was shown in the resurrection and saving work of Jesus Christ. But, not only has Christ saved us by His mighty power, He has so transformed us that we have a completely new standing in Him.

Verses 20-21 of our passage tell us that God, through His mighty power, “set Jesus at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.” Many men throughout history have tried to dominate the world through military and political power. Some have even claimed that they were gods and were worshipped as such. But no one, except Jesus, is a true world ruler.

Being the incarnate Word, He is the creator of the world, and He is its rightful ruler. Although for a time, it seemed as if Satan had taken over the world, Jesus broke his usurpation through His death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus showed that He is the true ruler of the world, not because He came with armies to conquer it and to enslave mankind, but because He alone loved the world enough to die for it. Now, He sits in Heavenly places, “far above” all other forms of power, authority, or rule not only in this world, but in the world to come.

Handley Moule said, “Think of the paradox. The Apostle is speaking of a Personage of history, of recent, almost contemporary, history. He had worked with His hands, He had walked from place to place like other men, and man could no doubt accurately describe His look and manner when He talked. He is now ‘seated at the right hand of’ Almighty God, on His very throne.”

Most people who saw Jesus as a man on this earth could not imagine Him as God, seated in Heaven, the supreme potentate of the universe. By the same token, we here on this earth who believe in Christ as our Savior have a similarly dramatic transformation. By God’s mighty power, we are transformed from sinners destined for Hell into saints already seated in Heavenly places with Christ Jesus. It cannot be emphasized enough that the mighty power of God is available to and is working in us today.

Let’s pray.

Now, if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, please keep in mind that the Bible says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” Just pray and ask Him to come into your heart and He will. I will be sharing more on the matter of salvation in the next segment of our service which starts in about 5 minutes.

LISTEN: Jesus the Triumphant, Part 19 (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 195 with Daniel Whyte III)

Daniel Whyte III

TEXT: John 12:48-50

48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

———-

Today, I am continuing the daily Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign sermon series, which is aimed at sharing the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ with unbelievers and reminding Christians, in this important election year, to keep the main thing the main thing — and that is reaching unbelievers with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and praying for their salvation, for the problem in America is not only disobedient presidents, politicians, and people, but disobedient pastors, preachers, and parishioners who have refused to obey the Lord’s Great Commission which is to, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” and who have refused to obey God’s repeated commands to “pray without ceasing” for unbelievers, believers, and political leaders. Yes, you should pray for the right candidate to win; yes, you should vote for the candidate that the Lord gives you peace about voting for. But, don’t get caught up in it like the world does. Nothing much is going to change until people get saved and get their hearts right with the Lord.

This campaign is inspired by the following three verses: 1 Corinthians 2:2 which says, “For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” Acts 5:42 which says, “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” And 2 Timothy 2:4 which says, “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”

This series is not for Christians necessarily. However, I do hope you are one of those saints who still loves to hear the “Old, old story of Jesus and His love” — As another hymn says, “For those who know it best Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest.” This series is primarily for unbelievers, so they can hear and understand the Gospel and be saved from sin and the punishment of sin which is hell. This is message number 195.

Matt Chandler said, “The cross of Christ is first and centrally God’s means of reconciling sinful people to his sinless self. But it is bigger than that too. From the ground we see the cross as our bridge to God. From the air, the cross is our bridge to the restoration of all things. The cross of the battered Son of God is the battering ram through the blockade into Eden. It is our key into a better Eden, into the wonders of the new-covenant kingdom, of which the old was just a shadow. The cross is the linchpin in God’s plan to restore all creation.”

As Jesus delivers his final message to the Jews, He emphasizes once again His unity with God. He said, ‘The message I speak is not my own, but the message of the one who sent me. He told me what I am to say and that is what I am saying.’ Jesus is trying to get the people to understand that, while they might not respect Him or think highly of Him, they do not want to make the mistake of disrespecting God and refusing to listen to the message that He has sent.

You see, the power and significance of the message is determined by the one from whom the message is sent. If your next door neighbor comes to your house and says he is going to arrest you and take you to jail, you would probably laugh in his face. But if a uniformed police officer knocks on your door with a warrant for your arrest signed by a judge, it is a different matter. The judge’s name signed on the warrant carries authority and power.

Jesus not only came with a message from God; He was the message from God. The religious establishment blindly thought that they were opposing Christ alone. They made Jesus their enemy, but never considered the fact that they were actually fighting God.

Some today might think that the church or the preacher or Christians in general are their enemy. But when you reject the Gospel, you are not rejecting the church or the preacher, you are rejecting God. He is the one who gave the church the Gospel message to give to you.

Why was Jesus so faithful in proclaiming God’s message despite the persecution He received? He said, “I know that his commandment is life everlasting” — ‘that’s why I am going to keep on proclaiming this message: it’s life everlasting.’ Jesus knew what He had come to do. He knew the plan that God the Father had in place. Even though, at times, many of His own people wanted Him to stay quiet, the Gospel message was too important.

The Gospel is life-giving and life-transforming. It can change your life and shape your eternal destiny. Don’t shut your ears to Jesus’ cry and miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime. Don’t resist God and miss out on life everlasting.

Here is how you can receive Jesus Christ into your life today.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law.

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him.

I am sorry for my sins, and I want to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour!
