LISTEN: Be Ready at All Times Because You Never Know… (Gospel Light Minute X with Daniel Whyte III)

The world continues to reel from a succession of increasingly deadly terror attacks. It seems as though before the modern news cycle can even provide conclusive details on one attack, another one has occurred.

Daniel Whyte III
Daniel Whyte III

Perhaps the most startling thing about these attacks is that they occur not on battlefields far from population centers, but right in the midst of places where ordinary citizens, people looking forward to the next day, congregate and live life. Some were preparing to board a plane or pick up loved ones arriving at the airport in Istanbul. Some were shopping at markets in Baghdad. Some were eating at a restaurant in Bangladesh. Some were partying at a nightclub in Orlando. Some were vacationing in Somalia.

None thought that they would die in the way they did or at the time they did. They were caught unawares.

What is most tragic, however, is that many of those who died may have been unprepared to face what comes after death. An eternal destination awaits each of us after we leave this earth. A decision we make in this life determines where we end up. You can die just as suddenly and unexpectedly as the hundreds of souls who died in terror attacks over the course of the past few months. Your life is no more special than anyone else’s. You should take advantage of the opportunity you have right now to prepare for what comes after death. It would be a tragedy if you did not take advantage of this chance.

You can make a choice that will ensure you will go to Heaven, a place of eternal peace and rest with God, when you die. The alternative is to go to Hell, a place of eternal punishment, pain, and separation from God.

I am sure you want to go to Heaven when you die. The only way to do that is to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. It is only through Him that you will be saved from sin and the punishment of sin in Hell.

If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, here is how you can accept Him into your heart today.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. For more information to help you grow in your newfound faith in Christ, go to Gospel Light Society.com and read “What To Do After You Enter Through the Door.” Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

Believe by faith. Share the faith. And keep the faith! God Bless You!

TEXT: John 12:27-29

27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.

———-

Today, I am continuing the daily Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign sermon series, which is aimed at sharing the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ with unbelievers and reminding Christians, in this important election year, to keep the main thing the main thing — and that is reaching unbelievers with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and praying for their salvation, for the problem in America is not only disobedient presidents, politicians, and people, but disobedient pastors, preachers, and parishioners who have refused to obey the Lord’s Great Commission which is to, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” and who have refused to obey God’s repeated commands to “pray without ceasing” for unbelievers, believers, and political leaders. Yes, you should pray for the right candidate to win; yes, you should vote for the candidate that the Lord gives you peace about voting for. But, don’t get caught up in it like the world does. Nothing much is going to change until people get saved and get their hearts right with the Lord.

This campaign is inspired by the following three verses: 1 Corinthians 2:2 which says, “For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” Acts 5:42 which says, “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” And 2 Timothy 2:4 which says, “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”

This series is not for Christians necessarily. However, I do hope you are one of those saints who still loves to hear the “Old, old story of Jesus and His love” — As another hymn says, “For those who know it best Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest.” This series is primarily for unbelievers, so they can hear and understand the Gospel and be saved from sin and the punishment of sin which is hell. This is message number 185.

John of the Cross said, “Whenever anything disagreeable or displeasing happens to you remember Christ crucified and be silent.”

As He speaks in the Temple, Jesus testifies that his soul is troubled. No doubt, it would be because, not only as a man, but as God, Jesus had an abhorrence of death. He was at that moment facing death because His hour had come.

The fact that His hour had come did not mean that He was eager for it to come. In fact, He openly contemplated praying that it would pass. In verse 27, He says, “And what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour.” What am I going to do now that my hour is come? Am I going to ask God to deliver me from it?

What would you or I do? Perhaps you have asked God to deliver you from some illness or hardship. Perhaps you have asked for deliverance from death itself. Surely many of the people caught in the terror attacks that have happened over the past month pled with God to save them from death — even those who had never prayed before. But have you ever considered that it may be God’s will for you to go through death, through sickness, through hardship. It may be your hour.

Though Jesus considers asking God to deliver Him from this hour, He does not because, as He says, “for this cause came I unto this hour.” There was no randomness to Jesus’ existence. The cross was His purpose, His destiny, His fate. Jesus knew that this was His hour, so He accepted God’s plan. He would be sacrificed, and God would be glorified. Thus Jesus said, “Father, glorify thy name.”

Immediately, after this statement, we are told, “Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” This was the third time God’s voice had boomed from Heaven expressing approval of His Son. God was glorified when Jesus submitted to the plan for His life. God would be glorified again when Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead.

God is glorified by us as well when we submit to His plan for our lives. That plan may not be something that we want to do. It may, in fact, be something that brings about physical pain, suffering, hardship, or even death. The goal, however, is not our comfort or benefit, but God’s glory.

Jesus’ purpose, of course, included the making of a way of salvation for all of us. Although He was tempted to give up, He continued on for our good and for God’s glory.

Will you receive Jesus Christ as your Savior? If so, here is how you can take that step of faith today:

1. Accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 7:20: “For there is not a just man upon earth that doeth good, and sinneth not.” Romans 3:23 reads: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

2. Accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

3. Accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” The Bible says in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

4. Accept the fact that you cannot do anything to save yourself! The Bible states in Ephesians 2: 8, 9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

5. Accept the fact that God loves you more than you love yourself, and that He wants to save you from hell. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

6. With these facts in mind, please repent of your sins, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and pray and ask Him to come into your heart and save you this very moment. The Bible states in the book of Romans 10:9, 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Dear friend, if you are willing to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, please pray with me this simple prayer: Heavenly Father, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! A series of homilies on Ephesians

A homily is “a short talk on a religious or moral topic; a usually short sermon; a lecture or discourse on or of a biblical theme.”

Daniel Whyte III
Daniel Whyte III

I am sharing a verse-by-verse series of short messages on Ephesians (as well as other passages of Scripture) specifically targeted at reviving families and encouraging and exhorting husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, and children to do what God has commanded them to do, for if the church is to be revived and the country is to be awakened, the family must be revived first.

TEXT: Ephesians 1:5-12:

5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;

9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:

10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of time he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

—-

David Platt said, “Radical obedience to Christ is not easy… It’s not comfort, not health, not wealth, and not prosperity in this world. Radical obedience to Christ risks losing all these things. But in the end, such risk finds its reward in Christ. And he is more than enough for us.”

Leonard Ravenhill said, “If I’m not known in hell, I’m not worth a hill of beans. In Acts, the demon said, ‘Jesus I know and Paul I know…’ Is there any better compliment than this?”

In their book, The Ten Greatest Revivals Ever, Elmer Towns and Douglas Porter share with us: “Although the Korean church represented only about 1 percent of the entire population in Korea, its influence in daily life was far greater because of two unique conditions imposed upon new converts. First, missionaries required illiterate Korean adult converts to learn to read Korean in a simple phonetic alphabet before they could be admitted to membership. Second, Korean patriots viewed Christians as Japanese collaborators because they cut their hair as the missionaries and Japanese did rather than in the traditional Korean style. To distinguish between collaborators and Christians, the patriots required Christians to recite chapters from the Bible to prove they were Christians. The result was a 100 percent literacy rate among Christians in a largely illiterate nation. Their ability to read made Christians the natural leaders of the Korean society.”

God’s ultimate plan for the world, as we saw yesterday, is to bring everything under the headship of Jesus Christ. The Bible says that, eventually, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. However, for those of us who bow and confess now, there are extra blessings that we will receive. Paul tells us that it is this same Jesus “in whom also we have obtained an inheritance.”

The word inheritance means ‘a heritage or private possession that is passed down.’ The term is most often used when speaking of how an adult child might receive money, a house, land, or other property from his parents who received it from his grandparents. As members of God’s family, we also have an inheritance — a set of blessings that are passed down to us from God the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Some commentators believe that this verse can also be taken to mean that not only are we to receive an inheritance from Christ, but we ARE an inheritance FOR Christ. Dr. Warren Wiersbe explains: “Both are true and the one includes the other. In Christ we have a wonderful inheritance, and in Christ we are an inheritance. We are valuable to Him. Think of the price God paid to purchase us and make us part of His inheritance! God the Son is the Father’s love gift to us; and we are the Father’s love gift to His Son. Read John 17 and note how many times Christ calls us ‘those whom Thou hast given Me.’ The church is Christ’s body, building, and bride; Christ’s future inheritance is wrapped up in His church. We are ‘joint-heirs with Christ’, which means that He cannot claim His inheritance apart from us!”

Paul also tells us that this inheritance is “predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.” There is nothing mysterious about this predestination. As we have learned before, it simply means that the inheritance spoken of is something that has been a part of God’s plan for the redeemed for a very long time — since before the foundation of the world. It is a great encouragement for us in our spiritual walk to know that God already has rewards and blessings set aside for those who believe on His Son and place their faith and trust in Him.

Let’s pray.

Now, if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, please keep in mind that the Bible says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” Just pray and ask Him to come into your heart and He will. I will be sharing more on the matter of salvation in the next segment of our service which starts in about 5 minutes.

Rick Warren said, “You were made by God and for God and until you understand that, life will never make sense.”

Leonard Ravenhill said, “Most people can’t enjoy their religion; they just endure it.”

In their book, The Ten Greatest Revivals Ever, Elmer Towns and Douglas Porter share with us: “The Korean Pentecost was quickly recognized as a movement of God by Christian leaders around the world. The Edinburgh World Missionary Conference of 1910 declared, “The Korean Revival … has been a genuine Pentecost, for Korean church membership quadrupled in a decade.””

One of the benefits that we have as children of God is that we are given a glimpse into His ultimate plan for the future of the world. The secular man looks at the world around Him and wonders if there is a purpose or a point to it all. He views the vastness of the universe as a riddle that only the greatest philosophers can work out or as a riddle that cannot be worked out. He has no understanding of the purpose behind it all. But we, those who have been accepted into the beloved, do. As Raymond Sides wrote:

The wisdom of God is the greatest wisdom
that mankind will ever know,
And without the wisdom of God,
mankind will never spiritually grow.

Paul writes that as a result of our redemption, Jesus “hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Having made known unto us the mystery of his will…” As part of our growth in the family of God, we are given wisdom and insight through the power of the Holy Spirit who is our teacher in all things. This allows us to see the world through a prudent lens.

We do not throw up our hands and declare that there is no point to existence in this world. We do not lose hope at the crime, violence, death, and suffering in the world. At the same time, we do not become indulged in the pleasures of this world because we know that they will not last. What we do have is wisdom which reminds us that God is in control, and that, in the end, everything will work out according to His plan and for His glory.

The impartation of wisdom and prudence provides us with a different perspective on the world. The “mystery of God’s will” (which we will talk more about as we proceed through this passage) is not so mysterious to us anymore. Because the glory of God is the end goal of all things, we no longer have to feel a sense of loss when we consider our purpose in the world. Because we have been accepted in the beloved, our goal is to bring glory to God.

TEXT: John 12:23-26

23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

This is message number 182.

Alexander MacLaren said, “One Man stood up before all mankind, and coolly and deliberately said to them, ‘I am the realized Ideal of human conduct; I am Incarnate Perfection; and all of you, in all the infinite variety of condition, culture, and character, are to take Me for your pattern and your guide.'”

We have examined Jesus’ teaching that a person must ‘hate’ their life in order to ‘keep it unto life eternal.’ A person must give their life up, first to Jesus, in order to have true life that never ends. But once a person has given their life to Christ, what does his or her life look like while they live out their years on planet Earth? That is what we will examine today.

The life of one who has placed their entire existence in the hands of Jesus Christ is a life of service. Jesus said, “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.” The main thing one is expected to do as a Christian is to serve Jesus and follow Jesus.

Naturally, most of us do not like the connotations of the words ‘serve’ and ‘follow.’ We prefer being served by others and being in charge of things. But a person who has given up his life, and who will be in complete submission to God, does not have that luxury nor does he want it.

The word “serve” is derived from the Greek word, di-a-ko-ne-o, which describes a person who ‘attends to anything that may serve another’s interests.’ It was used of those who brought the food and drink to the table during mealtimes. This is the origin of the word deacon, which in the early church meant someone who ‘took care of the poor and the sick, supplying food and the necessities of life.’

Despite the definition, Jesus says that those who give up their lives are those who serve Him. Everything that you do for others in His name, it is as if you had done it for Jesus Himself. Everything that He tells you to do for others, it is as if you are doing it for Him. That is what it means to serve. Only the things you do as a servant for Christ are the things that really matter. As C.T. Studd wrote many years ago:

Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Servants have a close relationship with their master. Jesus says, “Where I am, there shall also my servant be.” He is speaking in spiritual terms. Wherever the Lord’s spirit is, wherever His work is being done or needs to be done, that is where His servants will be. True servants do not put Jesus on a time clock and say, ‘Okay, Jesus, I served you for four hours on Sunday. Now, the rest of the week is mine.’ No, wherever the Lord calls a servant to go, that is where he will be. A servant is one who gives his entire life in service to His Lord.

Only one life, yes only one,
Now let me say, ”Thy will be done”;
And when at last I’ll hear the call,
I know I’ll say “twas worth it all”;
Only one life,’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.
And when I’m dying, how happy I’ll be,
That the lamp of my life was burned out for Thee

This idea of servanthood may be difficult for some to grasp. Some might see it as too great a leap of faith — being in charge of their life now, but choosing to give up that life and place it under the control of someone else. But we must remember that Jesus made the greatest leap of all when He abandoned glory to become a man in order that He might save us.

That act of sacrifice alone ought to be enough to inspire us to give our lives to Him.

If you are ready to give your life to Jesus Christ, allow me to show you how.

First, please understand that you are a sinner and that you have broken God’s laws. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Please understand that because of your sins, you deserve punishment in hell. Romans 6:23 says “the wages of sin is death…” This is both physical death and spiritual death in hell.

But here is the good news. John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The phrase “For God so loved the world” means that if you are in this world, God loves you no matter what you have done.

The next phrase, “that He gave His only begotten Son” refers to Jesus Christ. He is God’s son who suffered, bled, and died on the cross for your sins and for mine, and He was buried and rose again.

Our next phrase is “that whosoever believeth in Him”. The word “whosoever” means anybody at anytime. The phrase “believeth in Him” means to trust in Him, to depend upon Him, to rely on Him, or to have faith in Him for your salvation.

Our next phrase, “should not perish”, refers to eternal punishment in a place called hell.

And, lastly, the phrase “but have everlasting life” means to live eternally in Heaven with God.

The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
