LISTEN: The Fellowship of Believers, Part 13 (Revive the Family, Revive the Church, Awaken the Nation, O Lord #131 with Daniel Whyte III)

A series of homilies on Ephesians 5 & 6

A homily is “a short talk on a religious or moral topic; a usually short sermon; a lecture or discourse on or of a biblical theme.”

I am sharing a verse-by-verse series of short messages on Ephesians 5 & 6 (as well as other passages of Scripture) specifically targeted at reviving families and encouraging and exhorting husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, and children to do what God has commanded them to do, for if the church is to be revived and the country is to be awakened, the family must be revived first.

Ephesians 6:10-24:

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

22 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

23 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.

Charles Spurgeon said, “Sincerity makes the very least person to be of more value than the most talented hypocrite.”

Leonard Ravenhill said, “Do you know why many people want revival? They want it to fill up the vacant pews. But many revivals empty the church before they fill it. God often wounds before He heals.”

In their book, The Ten Greatest Revivals Ever, Elmer Towns and Douglas Porter share with us: “At the end of October, Evan Roberts took the train home to be with his family and conduct a week of meetings among the youth in his home church. From the train, he wrote various friends to tell them what he was doing and to solicit their prayer support. When he arrived in Loughor, he went to his pastor to request permission to conduct the meetings. The first meeting was scheduled, and he was given permission to speak to any youth who agreed to stay after the usual Monday evening meeting.”

The word which is translated “sincerity” in our King James Bibles is used seven other times in the New Testament. Three of those times, it is translated as “incorruption.”

Incorruption is “the quality or state of being free from decay.” This word is used in the Bible to describe our resurrected bodies and how Jesus’ resurrection carries over to the believer. We read in First Corinthians 15, “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption… For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”

One day, we will indeed receive new physical bodies that will not be touched by the incorruption, sin, disease, and death of this world. But, even now, we ought to start living as incorruptible people. We ought to have incorruptible souls. We will not be perfect, but we ought to strive to live sincerely before God and before man. This means that we aim to do right, and when we do mess up, we confess our sins, forsake our sins, and ask for forgiveness.

Just as we will one day shed our corruptible bodies, we should right now begin to shed the corruption of the world, the flesh, and the devil. We should strive to be sincere and incorruptible in everything that we do.

Let’s pray.

Now, if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, please keep in mind that the Bible says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” Just pray and ask Him to come into your heart and He will. I will be sharing more on the matter of salvation in the next segment of our service which starts in about 5 minutes.
