LISTEN: How to Be Victorious in Spiritual Warfare, Part 25 (Revive the Family, Revive the Church, Awaken the Nation, O Lord #77 with Daniel Whyte III)

A series of homilies on Ephesians 5 & 6

A homily is “a short talk on a religious or moral topic; a usually short sermon; a lecture or discourse on or of a biblical theme.”

I am sharing a verse-by-verse series of short messages on Ephesians 5 & 6 (as well as other passages of Scripture) specifically targeted at reviving families and encouraging and exhorting husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, and children to do what God has commanded them to do, for if the church is to be revived and the country is to be awakened, the family must be revived first.

Ephesians 6:10-18:

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

—-

A.T. Pierson said, “At Waterloo, the English troops obeying orders fell on their faces for a time and let the hot fire of the French artillery pass over them. Then they sprang to their feet and rushed to the thickest of the fight and beat back their foes. The Lord wants His people flat on their faces, before they attempt to meet the great crises of life.”

Leonard Ravenhill said, “David had one of the most blessed experiences in the world, and the blessedness was that he was miserable about his sin.”

Today, we are going to look at one more way in which we should be “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…”

There are 15 forms of prayer. We have already seen that “all prayer” includes these fourteen forms: (1) the prayer of faith, (2) the prayer of agreement or corporate prayer, (3) the prayer of request, (4) the prayer of thanksgiving, (5) the prayer of worship, (6) the prayer of consecration, (7) the prayer of intercession, (8) the closet or private prayer, (9) the silent prayer, (10) the prayer of forgiveness, (11) the prayer of contemplation, (12) praying in the Spirit, (13) the prayer of fellowship, and (14) the prayer of committal.

Today, we are going to look at the prayer of Endurance. This is a prayer that we pray when we are weak physically or mentally, but especially spiritually. Paul prayed for the saints at Colossae that they would be “strengthened with all might, according to God’s glorious power.” During the night of His trial, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray, and God gave Him strength to endure the torture and death of the next few hours. There will be many times in our lives when we need strength; at those times, we can go to God in prayer.

I hope that you commit to using prayer in its many different ways so that you can live a victorious spiritual life and overcome the temptation of the world, the flesh, and the devil each and every day, for prayer, like love, is “a many-splendored thing.”

Let’s pray.

Now, if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, please keep in mind that the Bible says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” Just pray and ask Him to come into your heart and He will. I will be sharing more on the matter of salvation in the next segment of our service which starts in about 5 minutes.
