New Orleans police say two Australian tourists were shot after trying to buy drugs, then saying they didn’t have hundreds of dollars.
Police say the men, aged 21 and 23, asked a stranger in a Bourbon Street bar early Tuesday to sell them drugs. A police news release says the stranger escorted them to a driver who took them across the Mississippi River and said they’d need hundreds of dollars for the drugs.
Police say the pair replied that they didn’t have that much money.
Police say the car stopped on the west bank, and they got out. A third man demanded their money and shot them when they said they didn’t have it. Police say the third man jumped into the car, which drove away.
The tourists are hospitalized.
Police spokeswoman Dawne Massey confirmed their nationality. Spokesman Tyler Gamble would not give their home town, state or territory.
