As they have done for 20 years now, a sports ministry will host a special event as part of the “Final Four” college basketball weekend in Houston.
On the morning of the two national semifinal games on Saturday, Athletes in Action will host the “Legends of the Hardwood Breakfast.” The ministry’s Dave Lower anticipates about 1,000 people in attendance, including hundreds of college basketball coaches. At the gathering, AIA will present the 2016 Coach Wooden “Keys to Life” award in memory of the legendary coach.
“We all know and love Coach [Wooden] from his many, many years of coaching at UCLA and then the life he lived after that as well,” Lower shares. “And this year, the Keys to Life recipient will be Cazzie Russell.”
Russell – who played at the University of Michigan, was an All-American, went to two Final Fours, then was drafted number-one overall by and played for the NBA’s New York Knicks – is currently an assistant basketball coach at Armstrong State University, a Division III school in Savannah, Georgia.
