Dr. Ronnie Floyd, president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), announced today that he has appointed Liberty Counsel’s Founder and Chairman, Mat Staver, to serve on the Southern Baptist Convention’s 2016 Committee on Resolutions. The Southern Baptist Convention is America’s largest Protestant denomination, with more than 15.7 million members in over 51,094 churches nationwide. The SBC Annual Meeting will occur June 14-15 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Each year, no later than 75 days prior to the annual meeting of the SBC, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention, in conference with the vice presidents, appoints a Committee on Resolutions, whose task is to consider and recommend appropriate resolutions to the messengers attending the annual meeting. Staver, along with nine other Southern Baptist committee members, will arrive the Wednesday before the convention and begin his detailed responsibilities on Thursday morning. Prior to this, he will collaborate with committee members via conference calls and email exchanges.
“I am humbled and honored to serve on the Committee on Resolutions along with gifted pastors and leaders who are dedicated to biblical truth and the Good News of Jesus Christ. No matter what we face, we are assured that the fury of Hell shall not prevail against the Church. Please pray for us as we work together to craft resolutions for such a time as this,” said Staver.
Liberty Counsel is an international nonprofit, litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and the family since 1989, by providing pro bono assistance and representation on these and related topics.
