Two People Killed in Apparent Murder-suicide at Texas Walmart

Two people are dead in an apparent murder-suicide after a shooting at a Walmart store here, police said Tuesday.

Capt. Fred Klingelberger of the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department said preliminary findings are that a man walked into the store about 9:30 a.m. local time and fatally shot a male Walmart employee in the store’s garden center.

It’s too early to know the relationship between the men or what prompted the shooting, he said.

The store was evacuated and no one else was injured.

Schools in the area were temporarily placed on lockdown as crews worked to clear the scene. The lockdown was lifted about 30 minutes later.

Kaufman, a city of nearly 7,000, according to the 2014 Census population estimate, is about 33 miles southeast of Dallas.
