A mother of 5 is gunned down in front of her own home on Indy’s northwest side.
Homicide detectives were called to the 5600 block of Dobbs Ferry Drive around 4 a.m., where they found a woman dead from a gunshot wound.
The victim’s family says the 40 year-old mother had just been returning home when someone shot her on the front porch and drove away.
“For someone to just to wait for her and gun her down and have her 5 kids see her like that, that was senseless,” said the victim’s cousin Ilisha Hood.
The victim is identified as Nerva Singleton.
Singleton bled to death on her porch.
Her children, who range in age from 24 to just 3-years-old, were inside the home at the time and heard the gunshots.
“Someone just plainly came and shot my mother down in cold blood, in front of the house where all the children could see. We watched our mother pass away this morning,” said the victim’s oldest daughter Jana Singleton.
Jana is the victim`s oldest daughter.
She`s also pregnant with Nerva`s second grandchild.
She can`t understand why anyone would want to kill her mom.
“I can`t. I don`t understand why someone would do it in cold blood, right where we live where the children sleep, I just don`t understand why,” said Singleton.
Police say the neighborhood where the shooting took place is not a high crime area.
Neighbors offered nothing but praise for the victim.
