TEXT: John 6:44-47
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
———-
Today, I am continuing the daily Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign sermon series, which is aimed at sharing the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ with unbelievers and reminding Christians, in this important election year, to keep the main thing the main thing — and that is reaching unbelievers with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and praying for their salvation, for the problem in America is not only disobedient presidents, politicians, and people, but disobedient pastors, preachers, and parishioners who have refused to obey the Lord’s Great Commission which is to, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” and who have refused to obey God’s repeated commands to “pray without ceasing” for unbelievers, believers, and political leaders. Yes, you should pray for the right candidate to win; yes, you should vote for the candidate that the Lord gives you peace about voting for. But, don’t get caught up in it like the world does. Nothing much is going to change until people get saved and get their hearts right with the Lord.
This campaign is inspired by the following three verses: 1 Corinthians 2:2 which says, “For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” Acts 5:42 which says, “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” And 2 Timothy 2:4 which says, “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”
This series is not for Christians necessarily. However, I do hope you are one of those saints who still loves to hear the “Old, old story of Jesus and His love” — As another hymn says, “For those who know it best Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest.” This series is primarily for unbelievers, so they can hear and understand the Gospel and be saved from sin and the punishment of sin which is hell. This is message number 78.
Chuck Swindoll said, “He who resided in Heaven, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, willingly descended into our world. He breathed our air, felt our pain, knew our sorrows, and died for our sins. He didn’t come to frighten us, but to show us the way to warmth and safety.”
Every person who receives the Gospel message has a responsibility to respond to it. The acceptance of the Gospel is forced upon no one. Although God is working to draw people to His Son, the Gospel must be heard and accepted in the heart of each individual.
Jesus backs up His statement that no one can come to Him unless the Father first draws them by turning to the Old Testament. Quoting the prophet Isaiah, He says, “It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God.” The crowd wanted to see Jesus do marvelous works. They were eager to believe in Him when He was supplying their physical needs. But Jesus tells them that what they really need to do is learn from His teachings. Getting to know God is more than just witnessing His works. Many people have witnessed God’s mighty acts yet have not believed and do not know who God is. Everyone who has ever lived has witnessed the beauty of nature and the fascinating precision by which the world exists. Many have even acknowledged God’s hand in it all. But multitudes have died without having a relationship with God.
Take Golden State Warriors basketball player Steph Curry for example. Millions of people witness his great talent on the basketball court each week. Many praise him and consider themselves his fans. But very few people actually have a relationship with Steph Curry. In order to really get to know Steph Curry, you would have to sit down with him and talk with him. Perhaps you would have to spend the day with him, stay overnight at his house, go practice with him, and let him take you to his favorite restaurant. Then you could say you know him.
It is the same way with God. God wanted us to know Him in an intimate way; that is why He sent Jesus — the very image of Himself — to walk among us, to live with us, and to teach us what God is like. Jesus said, “They shall all be taught of God.” Jesus’ words are the teachings of God. We cannot know God without listening to Jesus and spending time considering His words.
Jesus goes on to say, “Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.” Only those who listen to Jesus can come to God. We must hear Jesus’ words — that is, physically take them. Through those words, we learn of the Father — that is, we come to realize the truth of Who He is. You may have faulty ideas about God that come from popular culture, a cult, some other religion, or your own notions about the world. By listening to Jesus, you can learn who the Heavenly Father really is. After you hear and learn, then you can make the choice to “come” to Jesus. If you want a relationship with the Father, that is what you will do.
Now, you might say, “Why is Jesus qualified to teach about God? Why can’t Muhammad teach about God? Why can’t Buddha teach about God? Why can’t teach about God?” There is a very simple answer for that: Jesus says, “Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.” No one, but Jesus, has seen God. No one, but Jesus, truly knows what God is like. God did not come down to Earth in all of His glory because the sight of Him would be too much for our human senses to take in. Our faculties would give out from sensory overload; we would die. God mercifully sent Jesus to us so we would get a taste of what God is like and His offer of eternal life.
With this section of His teaching complete, Jesus says, “Verily, verily — truly, truly — I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” Everything you have learned about God through Jesus Christ comes down to a decision — Will you receive everlasting life or will you reject it? If you are ready to come to Jesus right now, here is how to make this all-important decision:
John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and I want to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.
If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour!
