Civil Rights Drama “Loving”, About Interracial Marriage Case, Gets November Release Date

Loving has been given a prime awards season release date.

The interracial marriage biopic starring Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga hits theaters Nov. 4th on a limited basis before going wide Nov. 11, Focus Features announced Tuesday.

Writer-director Jeff Nichols (Mud, Midnight Special) was inspired by the award-winning documentary The Loving Story, which detailed the lives of Richard (Edgerton) and Mildred Loving (Negga).

The real-life couple was arrested in 1958 and forced from Virginia, where interracial marriage was illegal. They took their case to the Supreme Court in 1967, and in the landmark case Loving v. Virginia, the court ruled unanimously in their favor, forcing the repeal of any restrictive marriage laws based on race.
