It Is Midnight In America, and There Is No Spiritual Light In Sight

Given the divisive philosophical nature of political discourse in the 2016 presidential election it is definitely midnight in America. It is not morning as declared by President Ronald Reagan in 1980. Morning implies the beginning of a new day, and living in the light that is the wisdom of God. Instead, we are living in an age of spiritual, moral, and political-privilege oriented devil-confusion. The civil fabric of American society is being ripped apart by “White” privilege oriented politics, and the insatiable desire on the part of some Americans for power, and material things without instituting collective responsibility, and accountability. If America is to survive, we must choose a better “political” pathway; especially if we desire a civil society, rather than instituting a have-versus-have not war. Political parties must do a much better job of screening and vexing political candidates for high governmental offices; especially the office of president.

If you are not hearing this prayer coming from the so-called-Christian-Right (Evangelical community), it is not midnight in America, but we are on the other side of midnight. “Trust in the Lord, and do good; so thou shall dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.” (Psalms 37:3).

Since 1964 with the presidential campaign of Senator Barry Goldwater culminating in the election of President Ronald Reagan in 1980, and above all, in conjunction with the institutionalization of the Southern Strategy the moral character of the Republican Party has steadily been marching toward the slogan “Make America Great Again”. The Republican Party is fast becoming the laughing political party of all parties, because the Republican Party has become the Party of exclusion by very divisive rhetoric, and away from the spiritual-unifying-principles of Abraham Lincoln: “A nation divided against itself cannot stand”.

In 2016, the genie is out of the bottle, and the Republican Party is reaping a whirlwind of moral-political-confusion, because now you have a roaring lion running rampant in the Republican Party, and in American culture, and the chickens have come home to roost. “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” (1 peter 5: 8-9). Lions attack the weak, and choose victims that are not alert, because of ignorance of the jungle environment.

The Bible emphatically declares: “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” (James 4: 10). Too many Americans out of a misguided value system of privilege economics are willing to accept less if others have far lesser. Therefore, when Christian Americans witness these signs Jesus is on his way back. “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring: men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21: 25-28).

The anger in America is being fueled by misguided notions of privilege, lack of competitiveness in the drawing (gerrymandering) of congressional lines, income inequality, and the perpetuation of racial and ethnic sameness in local neighborhoods rather than the notion of melting-pot-communities.

America as we live, let’s not become lovers of our own selves; thinking that we are wise, and yet demonstrating to the world-community that we are fools. For God is not fooled or mocked individuals reap the whirlwind of what they sow. America heed this warning: Repent! Repent! Repent! “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4: 12).

My fellow Americans, God is seeking to get our attention. Money and power are not the answer; unless used for the glory of God, because you could be here today and gone tomorrow. “But, God”. “Man that is born of a woman is of a few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.” (Job 14: 1-2). America the Word of God is not seeking to frighten you; only warn you. Take heed America because the time is at hand. “For all flesh is as grass. The grass withered, and the flower thereof falleth away: but the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” (1 Peter 1: 24-25).

As we live our lives should be to the glory of God, because: “Be not deceived: God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that he shall also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” (Galatians 6: 7-8). We all know that we can easily get on the other side of midnight, and politically be deceived; not realizing that: “Evil communications corrupt good manners.” (1 Corinthians 15: 33). But more importantly, know full well that: “When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.” (Proverbs 26:25). Of course, “These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, an false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among the brethren.” (Proverbs 6: 16-19). Selah!
