Pennsylvania Man Who Went Panning for Gold Found Dead at Creek

Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was found at the edge of a western Pennsylvania creek after he went panning for gold.

Officials say 33-year-old Jeremy Potcnak, of Ford City, was found Monday morning along Tub Mill Run in Manor Township, Armstrong County. Family members went looking for him when he didn’t return home.

Coroner Brian Myers pronounced him dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause and manor of death. State police are also investigating.

Kevin Andrews, director of the county tourist bureau, says panning for gold isn’t a common activity, but he has heard of people doing it in the area. He says those involved closely guard the locations of the spots they favor.
