A “very large” avalanche in the western Canadian province of British Columbia killed five snowmobilers, the provincial coroner’s service said.
Barb McLintock of the British Columbia Coroners Service said the avalanche took place Friday in an area where several groups were snowmobiling. She said two coroners were dispatched from Prince George, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were investigating.
The McBride mounted police said Friday evening that it was coordinating the search for a number of snowmobilers involved in the avalanche, which occurred in the Renshaw area east of McBride.
