Some might deem this a start in the right direction, while others may perceive it as small pickings.

Thursday evening (January 28) The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a diverse group of actors and actresses to present awards to the night’s winners. Of those presenters are Academy Award Winner Whoopi Goldberg and Ride Along 2 star Kevin Hart.

The show, which airs February 28 and is hosted by Chris Rock, will include Pharrell Williams, Oscar nominee The Weeknd, Charlize Theron, Benicio del Toro, Tina Fey, Ryan Gosling, Lady Gaga and Sam Smith.

The call for diversity began when no actors of color were nominated at this year’s Oscars and actress Jada Pinkett Smith stated she would boycott this year’s ceremony and asked others to the do the same. Since then, many others have come forward to express their disappointment with the Academy .

Is this a start in the right direction?
