Sprint is cutting 2,500 jobs, largely from customer care centers, according to reports from The Kansas City Star and other sources.

The Star, citing company officials, reported that the job cuts have struck six customer care centers and also involve 574 other positions at its Overland Park headquarters. These moves come amid Sprint’s “months-long effort” to reduce $2.5 billion in spending, the Star reported.

News of that restructuring first surfaced in October. “We have begun an effort to significantly take costs out of the business so the transformation of the company will be sustainable for the long-term,” a Sprint spokesman told Reuters at that time.
