A North Carolina pastor put his faith to the test after a man carried an assault rifle into his church — and the pastor calmed the stranger and took away his weapon before praying with him.
The incident occurred at about 11:40 p.m. Thursday, New Year’s Eve, at Heal the Land Outreach Ministries in Fayetteville.
Pastor Larry Wright, 57, also a City Councilman, was delivering a sermon when the man entered the church carrying a gun — a situation that made church members think about the 2015 Charleston, S.C. attack in which nine people died.
The man told the crowd that the Lord had told him he needed to go to the church before he did something bad, The Fayetteville Observer reports.
The armed man and pastor met near the front of the church.
“Can I help you?” the pastor asked.
