PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “The World at War (Part 3)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future.”

— The Final Blast

The Bible predicts the final devastation in “one hour” of the the prophetic “Babylon”, the symbolic name for the kingdom of the Antichrist. The Bible says, “All your riches and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.” Even the merchants and sailors will not come near this land, but will “stand far off, terrified at her torment,” and crying out, “In one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin!”

The apostle Peter provides an even more vivid description of the final blast that will devastate this planet when he warns, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

John Phillips notes that Peter’s prophecy of a great, end-times conflagration of the earth and its atmosphere uses precise terminology that accurately describes a nuclear explosion. Liddell and Scott’s Lexicon define the “elements” as “the components into which matter is divided” (or atoms), and the term “dissolved” comes from the basic Greek word meaning to “loose” that which is bound (as in nuclear fission). The term “great noise” is found nowhere else in the New Testament and signifies “a rushing sound of roaring flames.” The term “fervent heat” is derived from a Greek medical term denoting a fever. But Peter’s use of it in application to inanimate objects is the only such known usage anywhere in Greek literature. Thus, Phillips observes, “Peter describes in accurate terms the untying of the atom and the resulting rushing, fiery destruction which follows it.”

OCCUPY TILL I COME: We are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. This section is titled, “Watch” (Part 3) based on the parable of the foolish and wise virgins in Matthew 25:1-13. J.C. Ryle writes:

The figures and emblems used in the parable also call for some explanation. I will give you my own view of their meaning. I may be wrong. I freely admit that they are not always interpreted exactly in the same way. But you have a right to have my opinion, and I will give it you shortly and decidedly.
