Members of the church and community assembled for the grand opening ceremony of the Rev. Dr. Andrew J. White Community Empowerment Center at Union Branch Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The center is named after Dr. White who pastored there for 45 years.
Many of White’s friends, fellow clergy and family members attended the ceremony to honor him.
Local and state representative, Sen. Rosalyn Dance highlighted the spiritual leadership White provided during a brief moment of hardship while Dance’s young child had gone missing from their neighborhood. Dance also highlighted White’s wise counsel during the planning stages of the Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg.
