North Carolina Central University in Durham was placed on lockdown late on Sunday night after gunfire erupted on campus, injuring one person, police say.
The incident happened at about 10:53 p.m. when a shooting occurred on the NCCU campus, prompting the university to issue an emergency message at 11:14 p.m., warning students of an active shooter and urging them to seek shelter.
Durham police confirmed one victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and said the shooter was at large.
The shooting appeared to be an isolated incident with no threat to the campus as a whole.
At 11:50 p.m., the lockdown was lifted.
