A Memphis police officer was shot multiple times Sunday afternoon and died in hospital, police said.

Officer Terence Olridge, 31, joined the police department last year. He is survived by his fiance, who is four-months pregnant, his mother, and other family members, Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said.

One suspect is in custody, and the shooting is under investigation, he said.

“The details are now very, very sketchy,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong spoke Sunday afternoon outside the hospital where Olridge was pronounced dead. Other officers who worked with Olridge were also at the hospital to pay their respects, the police director said.

Olridge’s death came just two months after a manhunt related to the fatal shooting of another Memphis police officer, Sean Bolton.

“It just doesn’t get any easier,” Armstrong said. “I didn’t think we’d be here again so soon.”
