Excitement is in the air at St. James AME Church as they prepare to present a variety of events during the month of September.

According to Pastor Dwaine A. Jackson, the activities are part of the church’s 70th anniversary celebration. The theme is ‘Pressing Onward and Upward’ based on Philippians 3:14.

“We are excited about what God has done and what he is doing at St. James AME and we invite the everyone to join us in this time of rejoicing,” said Jackson.

Earlier this month, the church hosted a youth service with the Rev. Dr. D. Najuma Smith Pollard as the guest speaker. Also, a revival was held featuring the Rev. Daryl Walton and the Rev. Tarez Holland of St. James AME, Pastor Joyce Kitchen of Emmanuel Turner AME and Pastor Mary Minor of Murph Chapel AME.

“This weekend, we encourage the community to bring family and friends to our Community Unity Fair/Jazz in the Park on Saturday, September 19, starting at 12 noon. Several information booths and food vendors will be on hand as well live entertainment, free massages by Contender Wellness, and a Kids Zone,” he added. The fair will be held in the park at 70th St. and Estrella.
