Police are trying to track down the thieves who broke into at least four churches and stole thousands of dollars’ worth of items last week.

Antioch PFWB Church, Pleasant Grove Original FWB Church, South Erwin Baptist Church and Redhill PFWB Church all filed police reports after finding forced entry into their church and several items missing.

Thieves stole musical instruments, electronics and safes from the churches located in Dunn and Erwin.

Pastors of those churches tell WNCN they’re now looking into upgrading their security systems.

“I know many years ago churches rarely locked their doors,” said Pastor Turner Matthews of South Erwin Baptist Church. “But we’re living in a different time now and we’re thankful it’s not worse than it is.”

Both the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office and Erwin Police Department are investigating. You’re asked to call them if you have any information.
