National Baptist Convention Could Bring 50,000 Delegates to Memphis From Sept. 7-11, 2015

The nation’s largest African-American religious organization brings its annual convention back to Memphis.

Monday, the National Baptist Convention starts its week-long convention.

There will be meetings of the boards, auxiliaries and member churches of the Convention.

More than 50,000 delegates, many from Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, are expected at this year’s convention.

City leaders say the five-day convention will give Memphis and Shelby County a big economic jolt.

“it takes the local community to step up to make these types of word changing events a reality for our city become a reality, because this is a competitive business we are in”

This year’s session will be the first for Mississippi-native Dr. Jerry Young who was elected president of the organization in 2014.
