Two people, including the gunman, were killed and at least six others wounded in a movie theater shooting in Lafayette, Louisiana, on Thursday, NBC News reported, citing authorities.

Lafayette police could not immediately be reached for comment but said in a tweet that they were “working a shooting at the Grand Theater on Johnston Street” and that it involved multiple victims.

The local Advertiser newspaper reported that the gunfire broke out during a 7 p.m. showing of the film “Train Wreck.”

Witness Katie Domingue told the paper that the gunman was an older white man who stood up in the theater and began shooting.

“He wasn’t saying anything. I didn’t hear anybody screaming either,” Domingue said.

“Prayers for Lafayette at Grand Theater. Talking to state police colonel about shooting in Lafayette,” Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said in a tweet.

Lafayette is a city of some 120,000 people located roughly 55 miles (90 km) southwest of Baton Rouge.

  1. Best of all, the possibility of a trial for the theater gunman in Louisiana, no longer exists now and thank God. Please remember the heroes, Ali Martin and Jena Meaux. Legends and heroes.

  2. Ali Martin is the distant cousin of hero and saint, “Uncle” Craig A. Pepin. So does Jena Meaux. The heroes are in the watchful eyes of “Uncle” Pepin.

  3. Additionally, Ali Martin and Jena Meaux are the distant cousin of “Aunt” Lauren Rousseau. The heroes are in the watchful eyes of “Aunt” Rousseau.
