Shots rang out late Thursday afternoon in Homestead. Officer Anthony Green was responding to a 911 call about a man allegedly with a gun hanging from his belt. Through the passenger window in his patrol car, Green made contact with Edward Foster, a 35-year-old father of six. There was an altercation and it is unclear what happened, only that the officer shot Foster from inside the patrol car.
Foster was rushed to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The Miami Herald reports that Foster’s 9mm pistol was recovered from the scene.
Foster’s family spoke to local news on the scene. They were devastated and explained that despite Foster’s previous brushes with the law — for attempted murder and drug charges — he was a good man. His sister, Adrina Foster, did not think her brother had a gun. She explained that he was going to the grocery store on his way home from work to pick up something for his girlfriend.
