Office 2016 for Mac Launches, But Only for Office 365 Subscribers

Microsoft on Thursday released Office for Mac 2016, but just for Office 365 subscribers at the moment.

The new software is now available for Office 365 subscribers in 139 countries and 16 languages, Redmond said. To get it, sign in to your Microsoft account, and follow the installation instructions.

Students can get the software for free or at a substantial discount; head over to Microsoft’s Office in education page to see if you qualify. Otherwise, you’ll have to either purchase an Office 365 subscription, or wait until September when the standalone version of Office 2016 for Mac arrives.

Microsoft first released a preview version of Office 2016 for Mac in March, and said that customer participation “exceeded our expectations, making it our largest Office for Mac beta ever.”

“Mac preview participants provided us with over 100,000 pieces of feedback,” Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president for the Office Client Applications and Services team, wrote in a blog post.
