South Carolina’s NAACP and federal agencies are meeting with black church leaders about fires that have burned several sanctuaries around the Southeast.

The security briefing for South Carolina pastors and lay leaders is Thursday at C.A. Johnson High School’s auditorium in Columbia. They’ll be briefed on ongoing investigations into the recent rash of church burnings across the South.

The public is invited to attend.

Authorities have investigated roughly a half-dozen fires at predominantly black churches in the Southeast since nine members of a Charleston church were killed in a racially motivated shooting. Only three of the fires appeared to be arson. No evidence of hate crimes has publicly surfaced so far.
