Two North Carolina fishermen caught a shark they measured to be larger than six feet on Friday morning while out in the water in Kill Devil Hills.
A string of shark attacks have terrorized the Carolinas coast and the local fish population alike in the last month – with seven people reporting injuries, including two teenagers who lost arms.
One of the men grabbed the shark by its tail and pulled it out of the surf so it could be measured.
Beachgoers gathered to capture pictures of the shark, which officially clocked in at 77in, one witness told WRIC.
It was then released back into the water.
The spike in shark attacks haven’t been only scaring vacationers hoping to take a summer dip.
North Carolina fisherman have reported discovering a trail of half-eaten carcasses of fish left behind by hungry sharks.
