The moment award-winning gospel singer Tamela Mann received the call to perform at the White House, she immediately became emotional over the incredible honor.
“I said, ‘Wow!’ and my eyes teared up,” she said in a NewsOne Now interview with Roland Martin.
Fans will be able to witness her soul-stirring performance of “Take Me To The King” during TV One’s presentation of “The Gospel Tradition: In Performance at the White House,” airing Friday, June 26 at 9 PM EST.
David Mann, Tamela’s husband, who sat alongside her during the recorded News One Now chat, shared how he broke news of the invitation to his wife.
“I said, ‘Well, I didn’t tell them yes, but I wanted to ask you first, because you know I run stuff by you before I say yes,” he explained. “They want you to perform at the White House if you want to do it.’”
According to David, Tamela said, “What’d you ask me something stupid like that for?” suggesting that the moment warranted an immediate response in the affirmative.
“I mean, that’s like an ultimate call,” said Tamela, who laughed after David, a well-known comedian, revealed her response. “I said, “Are you serious?’ because he play too much.”
