When Kanye West and Kim Kardashian got married last year, they asked their friend, pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr., to perform the ceremony.
So when Wilkerson needed someone to design the cover of his upcoming book, Sandcastle Kings, he turned to West.
“Kanye is a really good friend,” Wilkerson tells PEOPLE. “We chat every week about different things: clothes, design, music, architecture, Jesus. He’s an amazing artist and designer, and with my first book coming out, I thought it would be fun for him to design the cover.”
“I asked him if he wanted to do it, and he was all about it,” Wilkerson says. “He was really enthusiastic.”
As it turns out, West was the right person to ask. He owns DONDA – a content, experience and product company that is named after his late mother. He came up with a design that Wilkerson says is perfect.
“It looks more like art than a book cover,” Wilkerson says. “It’s clean, minimalistic, and simple, with big brush strokes. It’s exactly what I hoped it would be.”
