White Mourner: ‘Until White People Take Responsibility For What’s Happening, We’re Probably Not Going To See The End Of It’

Father Victor Galier (l), of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in the West End said that he attended the service “to pray for ourselves, for the victims of the tragedy and the future.” He said that “it can’t end with the Amens. We have to change the world.” Reverend Jeffery Ott (r), of Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church said “it’s time for us to be people of unity and of hope. We needed to be here tonight to reaffirm that, so we could get our marching orders, so that we could go from this place and do what we were called to do.”

Taylor Ramsey, like many other Atlantans, attended last night’s Interfaith Service at Ebenezer Baptist Church.

It was held in order that the community might come together to pray for the victims of the mass shooting at Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

Dylann Roof, 21, is accused of killing nine people inside the historically black church Wednesday night during Bible study. Roof was arrested the following day about 250 miles from Charleston, in Shelby, North Carolina.

He has been charged with nine counts of murder

Ramsey says that she attended the service because “as a white person in this community, it’s important to show solidarity, and until white people start taking responsibility for what’s happening, we’re probably not going to see the end of it.”
