Coming off a huge three week interchurch celebration in March of Dr. Margaret Pleasant Douroux’s retirement from 64 years of local church ministry, the internationally acclaimed author, educator, and Gospel songwriter is pulling out all the stops for her 30th Annual Heritage Music Foundation National Gospel Music Conference, June 24 to 27, in Los Angeles.
The public is invited to free concerts, and if registered for the conference, participate in the mass choir! Those who would like to participate are urged to register soon as possible.
The biggest HMF Conference yet will be an all-star ‘Tribute to West Coast Gospel’ honoring pioneers and current greats. Gospel singers from across the nation and abroad will attend. Evening concerts, Wednesday through Friday, June 24 to 26, at 7 p.m., are open to the public at no charge. The Grand Finale Concert is Friday night, June 27, hosted by celebrity announcer, ‘Brother Steve’ Harris, at Greater New Bethel Baptist Church, 601 East 99th Street in Inglewood.
The concerts will include musical tributes to west coast gospel greats such as Dr. Douroux, Andraè Crouch, Rev. James Cleveland, Kurt Carr, Ricky Grundy, the Hawkins Family, Dr. Rodena Preston and the L. A. Gospel Music Workshop of America Choir, Charles May, Gwendolyn Lightner, Rev. Alexander Hamilton, Isaiah Jones, Thurston Frazier, Doris Akers, and many more.
