Brian Williams’ future with NBC News is still being finalized.
The embattled NBC Nightly News anchor has taken part in negotiations with the network for the past several weeks, and it is still unclear whether he will keep his job, reports CNN Money.
According to CNN, a number of sources believe that Williams may leave the network after reaching a financial settlement, while another option being discussed recently is for Williams to stay at the network, even if he vacates the anchor chair.
A source tells CNN that NBC News chairman Andy Lack wants to keep Williams at the network and has asked employees to think of a new role for him.
The proposal bears similarity to Ann Curry’s departure from Today in 2012. Curry stepped down as co-anchor of the morning program and signed a new deal as an NBC News correspondent and Today anchor-at-large.
There also has also been speculation that a role for Williams could be carved out at MSNBC. But unlike Curry, Williams strength has never been field reporting. And sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Williams has an uphill climb to return to NBC News. Spokespeople for NBC News and MSNBC declined comment.
