With the amount of attention on police departments across the nation, a Durham minister is reaching out to show support for “those who keep us safe” and looking to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community.

Sunday morning, with 10 Durham police officers in attendance, Senior Minister of King’s Park International Church Ron Lewis spoke to his congregation about heroes. He discussed heroes in the bible and those in the neighborhood.

“We were already thinking about this before a lot of the problems that we’ve seen in our nation and so now we actually want to be ahead of the curve and pray for the peace of God in our community,” Lewis said. “We feel like what we are doing is being proactive to get ahead and speak life and blessing over our police officers.”

He said that the church wants to “stand in the gap between injustice and chaos.”
