Immigration activists are trying to use Hillary Rodham Clinton’s stance on immigration to pressure President Barack Obama.
Clinton says that if elected president she would expand on the executive actions Obama took to grant legal work permits to millions of immigrants in this country illegally.
The White House insists that Obama went as far as he legally could with the steps he took last fall. But Clinton says she would do more, including extending deportation protections to the parents of so-called “Dreamers” — immigrants brought illegally to the country as youths.
Activists with a group called NotOneMoreDeportation.com are sending a letter to the White House saying that Obama should immediately make the changes outlined by Clinton. And they urge Clinton and the Democratic Party to urge Obama to do so.
