As always, it is so good to be with you today to challenge you, encourage you, exhort you, and motivate you to witness for the Lord Jesus Christ right where you are to those who are not believers in Christ. Even though we will share some instructions on how to witness for the Lord from time to time, we believe that most Christians do not need to learn how to witness for the Lord, they just need to go and do it; so our aim is more motivational than instructional.
Our soul winning passage from the Word of God today is 1 Peter 3:15 which reads: “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
Our soul winning quote today is from Cornelius Stam. He said: “The salvation of the lost is not best accomplished by great popular campaigns, conducted by a small minority of specialists in public evangelism, but by the godly, honest witness of believers individually. It is pure irresponsibility to leave the evangelization of the lost to the ‘experts,’ as many are doing today. God would have every believer do his part to win the lost to Christ by prayer, personal witness and sincere godliness.”
Our soul winning devotional is from “Evangelism Is…: How to Share Jesus with Passion and Confidence” by Dave Earley and David Wheeler.
Here is an example of how we can give a reason for the hope that is in us when people question our faith:
How Can You Say Jesus Is God?
One reason to believe Jesus is God is that Jesus, a man of unquestioned integrity and sanity, clearly claimed to be God. In his famous book Mere Christianity, Oxford professor and former skeptic C. S. Lewis makes this statement:
“A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic—on the level with a man who says he is a poached egg—or he would be the devil of hell. You must take your choice. Either this was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us.”
After studying the facts for himself, Lewis concluded that Jesus was indeed God. He spent the rest of his life using his gift of writing to tell the world about Jesus.
Another reason to believe that Jesus is God is because He allowed Himself to be killed because of this claim. What a dumb thing to do if He really was not God! Notice why the Jews wanted to kill Jesus. John 5:18 says, “Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.”
Beyond that, Jesus uniquely fulfilled the prophecies about God, the Messiah. His birth, life, death, and resurrection were described in amazing details hundreds and, in some instances, thousands of years prior to their occurrence.
