Police Wednesday were in a standoff with an LAPD detective’s girlfriend who has barricaded herself inside a San Fernando Valley home.
The Los Angeles Police Department received a domestic violence call around 12:15 a.m. in the 14000 block of Lemay Street in Van Nuys.
When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim’s boyfriend who had sustained minor injuries, according to Capt. Andy Neiman.
The woman, who was a former LA city employee possibly in her 50s or 60s, was refusing to cooperate.
“We’ve heard a rumor that there is an AK-47 – that has not been verified at this time, so we are working on that assumption and out of an abundance of caution we are going to move very slowly,” Neiman said. “Our SWAT team is going to do everything they can do this very peacefully and very methodically.”
Officers were called to the same residence Tuesday for a domestic violence incident, but no crime was involved, he said.
Three nearby homes were evacuated.
Residents were asked to avoid Kester Avenue south of Van Nuys Boulevard and north of Victory. Van Nuys High School was not affected.
