This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International. As always, it is so good to be with you today to challenge you, encourage you, exhort you, and motivate you to witness for the Lord Jesus Christ right where you are to those who are not believers in Christ. Even though we will share some instructions on how to witness for the Lord from time to time, we believe that most Christians do not need to learn how to witness for the Lord, they just need to go and do it; so our aim is more motivational than instructional.
Our soul winning passage from the Word of God today is Acts 17:23 which reads: “For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.”
Our soul winning quote today is from Peter Kreeft and Ronald Tacelli. They said: “Now if the religious skeptic is right, we can know nothing about God. And if we can know nothing about God, how can we know God so well that we can know that he cannot be known? How can we know that God cannot and did not reveal himself—and perhaps even through human reason?”
Our soul winning devotional is part 83 of our series titled “What Evangelism Is” from Dave Earley and David Wheeler. And, I want to remind you to take advantage of our special offer.
Evangelism Is…Answering Common Questions Seekers Ask (Part 2)
The great apostle Paul tells us how we are to respond to those who are still outside the faith. He suggests graciousness, love, and integrity.
Colossians 4:5-6 says, “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
Ephesians 4:15 says, “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.”
In order to evangelize effectively, you will often need to do a little apologetics first. In other words, you have to do pre-evangelism by offering at least brief answers to the questions raised by serious seekers and skeptics. In this broadcast and in the next broadcast, I will offer some answers to common questions about God and the Bible.
What Evidence Do You Have That There Is a God?
The existence of the universe is itself evidence that there is a God. Only three options can be offered to explain the existence of the universe: (1) The universe has always been. (2) It came into being by itself. (3) It was created.
Option 1: “The universe is eternal” has been utterly rejected by the scientific community. The motion of the galaxies, the background radiation echo, and other evidences overwhelmingly point to the fact that the universe sprang into existence at a particular point in time, something scientists call the big bang.
Option 2: “The universe created itself” is philosophically impossible. Before the universe existed, it would not have been around to do the creating. Obviously, a nonexistent universe could not have done anything! It did not exist. Nothing cannot produce something. Nothing is nothing. Nothing cannot see, smell, act, think, or create. So options 1 and 2 can be thrown out on scientific and philosophical grounds.
Option 3: “Something or someone outside the universe created the universe.” This is the only reasonable option. For example, let’s imagine I am holding up a painting. When you see a painting, what proof do you need to establish the fact that a painter exists? The only proof needed is the painting itself. The painting is absolute proof that there was a painter. You do not need to see the painter to believe that he or she exists. The painting is all the evidence you need. It would not be there if the painter did not exist, and so it is with the universe. The existence of the universe itself proves absolutely that there is a creator.
