KKK Arrives Ahead of Marchers in Montgomery

Members of the Ku Klux Klan have arrived in downtown Montgomery ahead of the Selma to Montgomery marchers who are expected here Wednesday evening.

Leaders, who were dressed in black uniforms, boots and red Klan patches, said most members will be in plain clothes.

Roy Pemberton and Jacqueline Hannah, who identified themselves as officers in the Klan, claimed that between 2,000 and 3,000 members were expected in Montgomery.

Although they said they are not a hate group and have nothing against those marching or gathering at the Capitol, they did accuse much of African-American culture for the problem of crime and unemployment in the nation.

“A lot of the problem is the crime. They (blacks) are racist as a culture to get away with crime,” Hannah said. “… We just had two policemen gunned down, rioting and a whole town burned down,” she added, referring to Ferguson, Mo.
