Dr. Dana Carson Explains How Slavery Impacted Christianity and the Black Church in New Book

One of this week’s guests on ‘Houston Newsmakers’ with Khambrel Marshall is Reverend Dana Carson, Ph.D, Pastor of The Reflections of Christ’s Kingdom Church (The R.O.C.K.).

Dr. Carson’s latest book, named “The Trilogy,” asks and answers questions about how slavery impacted Christianity and the black church, why the 11 a.m. hour Sunday is still the most segregated hour in America, and why some black men see Christianity as a white man’s religion.

Dr. Carson said because of the endangered status of African-American men in this country, his hope is to help change that dynamic.

“The Church has the greatest chance or the highest probability of being able to capture the hearts and the minds of young black men,” he said.

Dr. Carson also addresses President Barack Obama’s comments made at the National Prayer Breakfast in early February when he said “slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.” True statements, said Dr. Carson who said the uproar about what the President said was misplaced.
