Former Vikings Quarterback Christian Ponder Signs One-Year Deal With Raiders

Vikings free-agent quarterback Christian Ponder will sign a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders, ESPN reported Friday.

Ponder played his first four years with the Vikings, including being the primary starter from 2011-13. He played in just two games last year, getting one start when Teddy Bridgewater was injured.

The Vikings brought in Shaun Hill earlier this week to be Bridgewater’s backup. They already had long decided they wouldn’t bring back Ponder.

Ponder is expected to back up Derek Carr in Oakland. The offensive coordinator is Bill Musgrave, Ponder’s coordinator in Minnesota his first three seasons.

The Vikings play at Oakland next season. The date for the game will be set next month.
