A US Marshal was shot and killed in the line of duty as he tried to serve an arrest warrant in Louisiana.
WVLA reported the authorities were near Baton Rouge, in Scotlandville, to serve an arrest warrant on Jamie Croom, who was accused of shooting and killing a brother and sister in Louisiana in February.
Deputy US Marshal Josie Wells was part of the team tasked with arresting Croom. Police said the team exchanged gunfire with Croom and Wells was shot. He was taken to an area hospital where he died.
Croom, according to WVLA, was also wounded.
Fox News reported that Wells was the first marshal killed in the line of duty since March 2011.
Croom faces federal murder charges for Wells’ death, WAFB reported.
