A Christian children’s worker who was allegedly sacked after airing her views on gay marriage has launched an unfair dismissal claim against her former employer.

Sarah Mbuyi claims that she was fired from her job at New Park Childcare in Highbury, north London, after having a conversation with a lesbian colleague in which she said that ‘God does not condone homosexuality’.

And the Belgian-born Ms Mbuyi has said she will fight the dismissal, intending to argue at Watford Employment Tribunal that she has the right under EU law to enter into conversations with adult colleagues subject to the normal principles of engagement in speech.

Speaking of when her lesbian colleague came to her and told she was unhappy the Church did not allow her to marry her female partner, Ms Mbuyi recalled: ‘When I said “No, God does not condone the practice of homosexuality, but does love you and says you should come to Him as you are”, she became emotional and went off to report me to my manager.’
