After Two Seasons, Detroit Lions Cut RB Reggie Bush

The Detroit Lions cut running back Reggie Bush on Wednesday.

Signed before the 2013 season, Bush’s time in Detroit did not go as well as many expected. Over the course of two seasons, Bush tallied 1,303 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He added 759 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions.

After a decent start to 2013, Bush fizzled and ended up splitting time with undrafted free agent Joique Bell, who more than doubled Bush’s output in 2014.

Turnovers and his inability to consistently catch the ball out of the backfield were Bush’s downfall in 2013, leaving the door open for Bell and Theo Riddick to get more opportunities.

Head coach Jim Caldwell told reporters recently that the team’s 28th-ranked running game needed to improve heading into 2015.
